Teachers shoulder burden of 8-period day
PTA Council members weren't "bullied" over schedule change

Having attended this meeting, I am at the very least perplexed at the comments of this reader. The term "Hereford Zone" was given to the schools in the Northern Baltimore County area from the Baltimore County Board of Education due to the weather conditions that exist. Having lived in this area for over 40 years, and a graduate of Hereford High School, I am disturbed by these comments that the residents of this area are bullies. The residents of Northern Baltimore County are concerend parents, alumni, and community members that rally together for causes that involve our families and students. Hereford High School has had this schedule for over 20 years; its sucess is proven. Many people do not understand the benefits of the semester schedule. Actually what occurs is that our kids are given the opportunity with this schedule to take TWO math classes, TWO foreign language classes - in ONE year. This schedule is beneficial to ALL levels of students. Imagine the advancement that all students of Baltimore County could have if they adopted this semesterized schedule. Imagine your kids only having to concentrate on 4 classes a semester instead of 7 or 8. So I urge the parents of Baltimore County to keep a close eye on the decisions being made by Dr. Dance; when your school is affected by the rule of one, then maybe you will rally in support of your STUDENTS.
